The Six Hour Flight To Nowhere

It would seem the Volcano and ash cloud from Iceland is not even remotely over yet and it is still causing problems all over for people who are trying to get flights from the UK with lots of tourists risking getting stuck abroad if they decide to carry on and have their holiday anyway at the moment.

Passengers on a flight from Exeter airport had to make this decision yesterday when they were told there flights to Madeira would be redirected to Gran Canaria to avoid the ash cloud. Passengers could leave the plane and not go but they would not be compensated so only 4 people left. The rest sat on the plane patiently awaiting there new destination, unfortunately the flight got above the Mediterranean between Southern Spain and North Africa and the ash cloud was deemed to dangerous so the plane landed  in Santiago de Compostela and they were told they would carry on soon.

However later on they found out that they would have to head back to the UK and after 7 hours of flying all of the passengers ended up in the same place they started!

Flights to the UK from most places seem to be running still and internal flights to Manchester, Scotland, London and all small airports are unaffected. Short flights to France are running but any further and it is a bit sketchy still at the moment. American flights are running but they are taking different routes than they normally would so journeys may be longer.

So if you are planning a holiday any time soon, check out if your flights will be effected at all, it might mean the difference between a good time and and awful time where you go nowhere.
