Protesters Get Arrested By The Bucket Load In Copenhagen

copenhagen delegate 276021s 500x341 Protesters Get Arrested By The Bucket Load In Copenhagen

After yesterdays 194 arrests and some sad losses (those poor barricades!) the situation in Copenhagen is getting more and more intense. 200 complaints have been lodged against the police already and I imagine a few more will be complaining about yesterdays arrests, especially since all but 15 of the 194 arrested were released without charge.

It has all been kicking off in Copenhagen big time with claims of demonstrators being pepper sprayed whilst already being detained in a cage are rife and along with the controversial ‘kettle’ tactic being used has led to amnesty international to get involved to make sure that everybody is treated fairly.

This is all before the biggest protests, which are planned for tomorrow, have even began. 5000 demonstrators are planning to descend on the Bella Centre to coincide with the day most world leaders are due to arrive. The climate change Copenhagen talks are in a very fragile place at the moment and the disruption that the main co-ordinators of the protest, Climate Justice Action, are planning could make everybody listen to the protesters like they want, or alternatively it may spell the end of the talks if it gets too out of hand.

Lets hope that tomorrow can be peaceful and nobody gets hurt but at the same time a change is made for the good. The impacts of climate change are undeniable and many are saying this is our last chance to get it right!
