Amazon Disc+ On Demand
Amazon have just announced a new service for movie lovers, the Disc+ On Demand service. When you buy a DVD or Blu-ray you can instantly watch them using a streaming service, so you don’t have to wait for the physical item to arrive in the post before you can watch it.
I think this is a brilliant idea and although only available for a small selection of films and only in the US at the moment, I can see this becoming a very popular service and something that will be rolled out to most countries quite soon. Obviously if you wanted to watch the streams on a TV instead of a small laptop or computer screen you would need some way of connecting your computer to the TV, you can connect using monitor out and then headphone out into speakers but this is bulky and not ideal because you have to fiddle around with screen resolutions etc. So the ideal thing to use is something like the Apple TV or the Boxee, which is coming soon or hopefully Amazon would make it possible to stream the DVDs through your Xbox 360 or PS3 using their internet connections.
My only thought is, if I buy a film, watch it and then decide its rubbish can I cancel the order and get some of my money back?
