GE Reports have recently posted this image up as a graphic to show the relative loudness of a wind turbine compared to normal every day objects.

It’s an interesting bit of information because in the fight to stop climate change getting any worse the wind turbine is an excellent source of clean, renewable energy but for obviously with anything there will always be people who oppose something and the people against wind turbines say they are a blight on the landscape, which is surely subjective anyway and cannot be a real argument (I think their face is a blight on my landscape, does that mean I can legally make them stand behind me all the time?) and the other thing they complain about is the noise.

As you can see from the picture though they really aren’t that bad and when they are placed the suggested distance away (300 metres) they are only just louder than the running sound of a fridge! I really do not understand how we haven’t taken on the wind turbine more as a source of energy! It may not be perfect because of the whole what if it is a still day part but as one of selection of energy sources it should be used a lot more often!

A haunting series of postcards from the future have been released on the aptly named site Postcards from the Future. The quite shocking images have all been commissioned for an exhibition at the Museum of London and they are trying to highlight the effects of global climate change and what it could do to some of London’s most well known places.

Each picture has a little story to go with it and tells what has happened to make the scene and some of them are very hard hitting. Can you imagine Picadilly circus covered in wind turbines and being submerged under water or Hyde park being turned into agricultural land?

here are a couple of my favourite pictures.

London as Venice

London has become uninhabitable. Every year spring tides surge through the Thames Barrier, making London the new Venice. But whereas the city of gondolas has come to terms with water, London is overwhelmed.

This image shows the impact of 6-metre flooding, the level required to breach the Thames Barrier.

Trafalgar Square Shanty

Nelson looks down on a shanty town of climate refugees. As the equatorial belt becomes uninhabitable, so people are driven north in search of food and security. People settle wherever they can and many reach London.

This is the political dilemma of the day for all European countries. The numbers are overwhelming. London’s strategy is to cluster the new arrivals in the historic centre, rather than spread them through the suburbs, where most Londoners now live.
