All The Brits Are In Brisbane

I just saw this article on BBC News about all the British people currently starting a new life abroad in Australia and I have to say it does seem to be a bit of an epidemic. I know of several people who all seem to be leaving for Oz at the moment and I knew of a couple of different kids in school who left with their families to go and live there.
I’m not sure what it is about the place but everyone does seem to love Australia and I people who holiday there seem to stay there for a much longer period than most holidays last. My brother went there and stayed for two and a half months! The BBC article suggests that people still have a rather idyllic vision of a perfectly sunny country where everyone is super laid back, drinking Fosters with a BBQ and are only motivated by a bit of surf or a good game of cricket. And to be honest if it is anything like that I can’t blame anyone for going! If I had the chance I would love to get a taste of living somewhere warm, I’m not good with this rain business we mostly get here in Britain.
Mostly though, I’m too poor to move anywhere and I’m too poor to get flights to Australia every couple of months to see my friends, so please, would people stop moving away!
Interestingly though in that article they say how everyone seems to be moving to Brisbane instead of the bigger cities of Melbourne and Sydney and it seemed a strange turn because normally people move to the big city. Being a small town boy I can fully understand why people would want to move to a smaller city. After all most big cities in all countries are kind of similar and to get a real taste of the country you have to explore the smaller cities and towns, if I moved to Oz I’d be tempted to live in the outback and pretend I was Crocodile Dundee!
